A simple gift
I have seen beautiful sunsets on a warm summer night, the whole world stops for a moment and sighs in relief, there destiny has been fulfilled with peace at mind, for the universe knows your plan and your purpose.  The smiles and laughter the children give, warm feelings with a pink tint, the hope they have is a white universe with clouds and rainbows in their minds.  They have the whole world ahead of them they can do anything their hearts posse.
I send all my being with the wind and the rain to guide you the way, with a touch of a sweet and a hint of sour for your journey in the everlasting heat as you ran through the world chasing success and hope.  When you arrive at destiny’s door I also gave you some courage for along the way.
I wish for the best and only the best for you  I wish that your life is full of peace and hope and there is no doubt in your decisions.  You are forever content with your life and your being, for you only receive one life make it the best it can be, but do not fret because I will help you.
I taste the sweetness of life's gifts.  A gift does not have to be a purchase of choice it can simply be a warm breeze or a painted sunset.  I taste the delicacy of our fragile lives, that we take so lightly.
I say only good things to you that will lift your spirits and make you swore kindness is the first word that shall slip from my mouth.  I give advice and words of wisdom nothing less but perhaps sometimes more.  I say the secrets of the world to you I give you hope within my words.  My words light the way in total darkness, I give strength in my thoughts  if only everyone could have a taste of my compassion, kindness and hope then all that was lost could be found and our world would be complete.  I am the simplest gift that you will ever find but I am the best one to receive.

Poetry response #3

By The Shore by Edward Carpenter.  I chose that poem this week because it was descriptive and made you feel like you were actually by the shore.  At the beginning of the poem it really gave me an image of what was going on  “The obscure water, the long white lines of advancing foam, the rustle and thud, the panting sea-breaths, the pungent sea-smell.”  In that line there is also a metaphor, “the panting sea-breaths” the sea isn’t actually panting either the waves are loud or the wind is loud or perhaps both.   “Suddenly I am the Ocean itself: the great wind creeps over my face”   that line is also a metaphor for the wind blows on him and he is one with the sea.   I also like this line “And the sea is a sea of faces”  that is a metaphor and it is saying that the sea has many parts to it.  I like this poem because the author immersed himself with the sea, he took a simple topic and made a beautiful poem.

What Polly Found In Her Stocking  by Louisa May Alcott.  I chose this poem because it has great imagery and I enjoyed reading it.  The first  line really gives you an image of what is going on.  “With the first pale glimmer, of the morning red.”  There is also some metaphors in the poem “And she flew out of bed” that is a metaphor for she got out of bed quickly.  I also like this line because it sets the mood for the poem and it really shows you how its Christmas morning and its cold out “Through Jack Frost ‘s cold fingers Nipt her little toes”  that line is metaphor for it’s cold out.  “Long blue and full; Down it quickly tumbled with a hasty pull”  I think that is an excellent description of her stocking.  There is also alliteration in the poem “There she sat at daylight Hugging close dear dolly; Eating, looking, laughing”  there was also some great imagery in that line as well.  I think this poem really shows people what Christmas morning is like for kids.

silence fills the air

Open nature
freshness fills the air
hears childrens crys

Towering trees
green mountains out my window
wind whistling

Fresh mountain air
river outside my window
ripples in the water

My doves poetry response

Emily
4/21/13

My Doves by Louisa May Alcott this poem really drew my attention this week.  This poem is about doves as you may of noticed in the title.  It’s a very basic topic but the author makes it so much more.  This poem is a little over a page long, but every line gives you a clear image of the event.  The poem is very descriptive, I enjoyed it a lot.  There is a lot of alliteration in this poem I noticed for example “Twinkling eyes and fluttering wings.”  There is a lot of ings in that sentence, and it flows very nicely.  I also noticed a metaphor in this line “And my alms are freely taken.”  It’s a metaphor because its not a donation the person is just feeding the doves I guess in a way it could be a donation.  There’s a famous metaphor towards the end of the poem as well “So, they teach me the sweet lesson, That the humblest may give Help and hope, and in so doing, Learn the truth by which we live; For the heart that freely scatters simple charities and loves, Lures home content, and joy, and peace, like a soft-winged flock of doves.” That is a metaphor for what you give is what you get many writers have used that sort of metaphor in there writing not exactly in that form though.  I just thought that was a nice way to end the poem.

Life is but a dream poem responce

Emily
4/20/13

Life is but a dream by Lewis Carroll this poem really drew my attention this week.  I got the idea that this poem is about Alice in Wonderland because of the two lines “Alice moving under skies” and “In a Wonderland they lie.”  The two key words Alice and Wonderland.  The poem is maybe about Alice going to wonderland?  There is a lot of repetition and alliteration in this poem.  For example at the end of the poem there is an alliteration with stream and gleam.  There is also repetition in “Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die.”  I like this poem because it flows and it has a nice sound to it.  One of my favorite lines is “Still she haunts me phantomwise.” I like that line because of the word phantomwise I’m not really even sure if it’s a word but I like the way it sounds.  There are also some alliterations in “A boat, beneath a sunny sky”  that is the first line of the poem and that line is simple but it really sets  the scene of the poem.  This is a pretty simple poem but I like it.

Earth Voices responce

Emily
4/14/13

This week a poem that spoke to me was Earth Voices by Bliss Carman.  I love  this poem it is all about the seasons and how mother nature works.  I had to read it a couple of times to fully understand it but after I recognized all the metaphors in it.  Every time I read the poem it got better.  This poem is so peaceful and serene  to me it was like reading a peaceful affirmation.  In the first line I recognized an alliteration “I heard the spring wind whisper” from that sentence right off the bat it begins to paint a beautiful picture in my mind.  One of my favorite lines out of the whole poem was “ Within the house of being, I feed the lamp of truth with tales of ancient wisdom and prophecies of youth” I believe that line is a metaphor for the universe has a plan and it knows your future.  I also liked the line “The world is made forever in melody and power” I think that line is a metaphor for basically how the world works.  Melody means peace while power means controlling and taking over.  Isn’t that how the world works with peace and compromise then people with power try to take over.  This poem was written almost hundred years ago so the world was then ran with melody and power and it still is when will we find a balance?

Table Maners poem responce

Emily
4/14/13

A poem that spoke to me was Table Manners by Gelett Burgess.  I liked the humor in it and how he painted a picture of the family.  The family sounded as if there was a lot of kids and they didn’t have good manners. I noticed there was an alliteration in the poem during the line “they spill their broth on the tablecloth” because there was a th sound in broth and tablecloth.  I also noticed a reputation with the name Goop because it kept repeating.  I also liked how the author at the end of the poem stated that he was not a Goop but then he asked his readers if they were ones.  It leaves the reader thinking about their lives and their manners  and if they need to change their ways or if they're on track with their  manners.  I enjoy reading simple poems like this one.
