Poetry responce #4

The Secret of Abuse by Alyssa Mickelson.  I think Alyssa’s poem paints you a story of what some people may have to suffer.  I think her abstract noun is abuse.  I think its abuse because of how she writes with such sadness and suffering.  Her first lines is amazing because right off the bat she gives you a picture of what is going on.  She makes you as if you were there, when I read that first line it gave me chills.  “I have seen the fear in punched black eyes” it is a sad line but abuse is a sad thing so I think she nailed it.  “I would rather see mouths open Telling instead of yelling”  for starters telling and yelling are exact rhymes, that line is showing how this person lives in fear and anger.    “And if they let out what shouldn’t be told That consequences will unfold”  told and unfold are approximate rhymes and I like that line because people how are abused live in secrets.  “I know of sealed lips Promised to be kept zipped”  that is a metaphor for not saying what is happening in their lives and how they have to keep big secrets.
You Can’t Defend Yourself  by Cheyenne Bailey.  Cheyenne’s poem is definitely dark but I like it.  She has great imagery and metaphors.  I think her abstract noun is rage or anger.  She writes the poem as if people should be afraid of her.  In the first line “I have seen see through tears drying on someone’s cheek.”  III thought she was going to be the victim, but in the second line the scene changed dramatically.   “I have stabbed chests with my nails painted black.”    She turned into the bad guy.  She is talking as if she is some kind of murderer in the dark.  This poem is written as if this person lives in the shadows and is never seen.  “I watch eyes hit the ground. I watch sleeves be pulled down.  I watch knives be hidden.  I watch rubber bands be snapped.  I watch them break.” In that section there was repetition with “I watch.”  There was also metaphors with the line “I watch eyes hit the ground” like if she maybe killed someone because they fell over.  I just thought that was an interesting section, but I don’t really understand the whole rubber band thing.  As I read on I discovered that she is the rage inside of us.  I don’t think this is actually a person doing this to us it is what we are doing to ourselves.
